david vs goliath

in this particular case david is female and named holga, the queen of distortions, vignetting, blur and light leaks…and on the other side the cumbersome SINAR largeformat camera. I actually met Swiss Photographer Nicolas Henri to discuss an upcoming job concerning my lighting ideas, but instead i suddenly had this idea to shoot portraits with kingsize 8x10 inch and a toycamera in my garden. well these are pretty fast scans, but gives you kind of an impression how this competition ended…guess you'll find out which cam did which job… ;-)

Cool these lights!

By the way, yesterday I visited the Avedon exhibition in Amsterdam, like you said; amazing prints!
I guess this white backgroud is very effective. Reduction to the person. The large format prints of 'American West' were a highlight. Very simple lighting setup, but I could see he struggled also getting the sharpness on the right point.
Glad I could still see it, it was the last oppertunity in Europe.

Best, Edward

great you have seen these prints...i always expected one of these blokes will blinker with the eye...such a hyperrealistic presentation...so now go on the Avedon page and watch the same photographs on the internet, how's that...? they even look worse than the above negscans...

just after the exhibition I went to a Athenaeum, a book store in Amsterdam.
there I watched the 'American West' in print, that was already disappointing!
it just shows what we always talked about, there is nothing, nothing like a well made fibre print.
but like you said, you have to see it to be convinced. i can only say these LF prints were the
best prints I have ever seen. I wonder after seeing these if anything else is worth pursuing.
