afraid of thunderstorms ?

are you afraid of thunderstorms?
hiking in the Alps these days is great fun, but thunderstorms are ubiquitous. this weekend a friend of mine did quite panic, when we blundered into thunder and lighting high up the hills. i'm afraid of many things but definitely not of thunderstorms. once an outdoor bloke told me that it's important to know the distance to the impact spot. every second between the flash and thunder is about 300m...so if there are two seconds between the impactzone is withing half a km and then you really should stick your legs together and go to your knees not touching the ground with your hands. in this position you're pretty save...

the storm below i saw at the topend of New Zealand, quite heavy when it hit the coast...more enjoyable to experience in the safe car... :-)

Sometimes a color can completely dominate an image. In this case it's this beautiful blue which emphasizes the light and gives the photograph a special feel.
Very nice the transition from white to light and darker blue to almost black.

Really nice storm feeling you captured with the "small" lighthouse, dimensioning the massive strom clouds.

The lighthouse adds a good sense of space to the photograph.

Yes, that's a real storm, some Cumulonimbus Mamma clouds start developing in the foreground. When he seawater temperature is around 27 degrees, this puppy will keep developing with potential to grow into a hurricane.
